The problem of habitat is a universal problem worldwide. With the acceleration of urbanization, a large number of rural population to urban migration, the rapid expansion of urban scale. Many countries, particularly developing countries, are increasingly under increasing pressure to provide adequate housing, water, electricity, health care and other basic facilities and services for the urban population, and the problem of habitat is becoming increasingly serious.
Accordingly, on December 17, 1985, the 40th General Assembly of the United Nations adopted a resolution defining the first Monday of the year in October as the "World Habitat Day" and establishing a theme for it each year to raise awareness of the fundamental rights of human habitation and adequate shelter for all. Since 1989, the United Nations has also created the United Nations Habitat Award, which encourages and honors Governments, organizations and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to improving the living environment of the human race.
