Interview background: PMC, for many readers, its name may not be common, but its products in the telecommunications industry has a reputation. PMC's chip covers the fiber to the home/passive optical network, wired network architecture, wireless network architecture, enterprise storage and many other fields, because these chips are often hidden in a molding equipment, many end users may not be familiar with the name of PMC. But the advent of the big data age has given PMC a chance to see new opportunities and access to more end-users at close range.
Person Profile: Gletter Lang (Greg Lang) was appointed president and Chief executive officer of the PMC Company on April 2, 2008. In addition, Mr. Gletter Lang was elected as a board member of the company.
Prior to joining the PMC company, Mr. Gletter Lang joined Integrated Device Marvell Inc. (IDT) in 2001 as president and chief executive officer of the company. Mr. Lang successfully led the IDT company to transform from a general-purpose SRAM provider into a leading mixed-signal semiconductor solution provider dedicated to enriching the digital media experience. During his tenure, he was responsible for the multiple mergers of IDT and the company's profits multiplied.

In the big data age, how will the PMC develop its own expertise? How should the PMC seize the opportunity of big Data? FAI, editor-in-chief of the Web World newspaper, interviewed the PMC President and CEO Greg Lang with a series of questions.
Focus on the Chinese market
PMC since 1998 began to the Chinese market, in these more than 10 years, whether China's telecommunications industry or IT industry have undergone tremendous changes. More than 10 years ago, who can think of a mobile phone will be able to bring an exhilarating Internet experience? Who can imagine that the data center has sprung up all over the country in these more than 10 years? For PMC, China Telecom Industry and IT industry development of these more than 10 years, it is a good time to expand their business.
FAI: What do you know about the market performance of PMC in recent years? Especially for the Chinese market, what kind of results has PMC achieved? What kind of expectations do you have for the Chinese market?
Greg Lang: Over the past few years, PMC has been investing in three major business areas (storage, optical networks and mobile networks), dedicated to delivering innovative semiconductor solutions and driving the network to the big Data age. In the storage area, PMC pioneered the industry's transition to 6G by providing 6gb/s chips in 2009 and is now leading the industry in 175 million of the global 6gb/s SAS system port shipments. In addition, we have launched the industry's highest performance controller and Extender solutions in the 12GB/S SAS market leader.
In the field of optical Network, PMC's OTN solutions are superior to competitors in innovation, integration and power consumption, and can better help the operators to transition to packet network. In addition, we are the world's largest supplier of mobile backhaul network processors.
PMC has been ploughing the Chinese market since 1998, and has always regarded this place as the top priority of the global market. In the last ten years, China's rapid development of the network, transmission network from TDM to packet network evolution, wireless network from 2G to 3G updates, as well as access to the network from ADSL to FTTH and so on, I am honored to say that the PMC through the provision of cutting-edge technology chips involved in each of these stages of change. We will continue to support the development of China's next generation network. At present, we have and domestic important manufacturers Huawei, ZTE and Beacon Technology has established a solid cooperative relationship. PMC also participates actively in the meetings of domestic standards organizations and contributes to our experience in the field of expertise.
FAI: Can you introduce the customer service concept and model of PMC in the Chinese market? What measures has PMC taken to strengthen this capacity? Are there any further plans?
Greg Lang: We believe that customer support is as important as the product itself, so the PMC invests a lot of manpower and resources to ensure that customers enjoy the highest quality service. For customer support, we can talk about it from three levels. First of all, PMC has a deep understanding of the challenges and problems faced by Chinese operators in the deployment of the network, so we are committed to providing solutions to the problems related to the chip solution, so that our customers can better meet the needs of operators. Second, the PMC is located in Shanghai Zhangjiang Research and Development Center with the PMC full product line of technical support for the needs of Chinese customers to provide timely response. Third, based on the accumulation of PMC over the past 20 years, we apply a wide range of IP and interface to the three product lines (storage, optical Network and mobile network) to make the product design as standardized and concise as possible and to share the development platform, which can accelerate the development of new features and provide better technical support, This is also critical for our major customers because their products often involve both storage, light, and mobile networks.
