The UN Charter Day inspires the eternal melody of human progress

On June 26, 1945, on the day the U.S. San Francisco Conference was concluded, the representatives of 50 founding Member States signed the UN Charter adopted the previous day. On this day, it is also internationally designated as "Charter Day."

The world famous San Francisco, San Francisco Bay, on the western coast of the United States is not only dotted with the magnificent Golden Gate Bridge and the Silicon Valley that rose in the southeast of it a few years ago, but also because the city is the site of the UN organization. In a rainy dry season, as a visiting scholar at Stanford University, I once wandered over and over again in the bumpy bouquets of flowers in the city to look out for the famed City Opera House and Veterans Memorial Hall. It was during the summer of 1945 that smoke of the Second World War dissipated here that the "UN Charter" was issued. ■ Still saying "everlasting and universal" in the new millennium

In the 20th century, humankind has experienced unprecedented progress and turmoil, full of hope for the new century. The United Nations, as the largest international cooperative organization, has even looked back to it. In September 2000, 143 Heads of State and Government gathered at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The Chinese government's President Jiang Zemin also attended the summit with other heads of state of the Security Council. In thunderous applause, the General Assembly adopted the Millennium Summit Declaration, which placed special emphasis on the "eternal and universal significance" of the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations.

Why did you enjoy such a high reputation in the world when the new millennium was adopted, a document that was passed more than half a century ago? When we review the contents of the UN Charter adopted on June 26, 1945, we can see at a glance.

The charter first stipulates that the purposes of the United Nations organizations are:

Today, it is even more valuable for us to think more about the spirit of the "UN Charter" when we look at the hegemony that is flooding the international arena, frequently resort to force and interfere in the internal affairs of other countries. Although there were many acts of non-compliance or misrepresentation by the Charter signatories of the same year, and sometimes they even dominated the United States under the flag of the United Nations, as the United States did for the Korean war. ■ The adoption of the Charter reflects the common aspiration of humankind

The United Nations General Assembly was opened on April 25, 1945, at the stately City Opera House in San Francisco, USA. At that time, Eurasia was devastated by the war and only North America was still prosperous. Together with Uncle Sam's global strength, the site was naturally chosen here.

After two months of discussions, 50 representatives of nations attending the conference on 25 June unanimously adopted the "UN Charter" and held a signing ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Hall the next morning. According to the order of the English alphabet, the representatives of the five permanent members should sign the chart printed out by the five languages ​​of China, France, Russia, Britain and the West before signing by representatives of other countries. China was the first one to sign the name for "C" because of its country name, and Dong Biwu, a member of the Liberated Areas, also wrote his name on the charter with a brush.

An outstanding feature of the San Francisco Conference is that all nations, whether socialism, capitalism or feudal rule, unanimously agree with the principles of the Charter. The same is true for delegations from one country to another. At that time, the delegation sent by China was jointly composed of the Kuomintang, the Communist Party, the Democratic League and persons without party affiliation. However, the participation of other members, including representatives of the Liberated Areas, has become an important outcome of the struggle by the domestic democratic forces with Chiang Kai-shek, one-party dictatorship.
