According to Reuters, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it had requested the recall, which had been under investigation for a 18-month period earlier in 2003. The NHTSA document shows that the survey conducted in 2008 on the Sequoia Tracking control system and the stability system was carried out after more than 160 consumer complaints were received. Toyota said it had not received reports of accidents or casualties caused by the stability system. Toyota said in its website statement that it would upgrade the software of the affected vehicles. Toyota has informed dealers that the company is still studying solutions and scheduling. Toyota plans to notify car owners in May.
