Turn off the Windows XP AutoPlay feature

By default, the Auto playback feature of Windows XP reads the drive once the CD is plugged into the CD drive, or the Flash, http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/28213.html > Removable drive is plugged in. Also displays a dialog box asking you to choose whether to open the video, audio, and picture files. Sometimes, this automatic feature can bring you a little trouble, if you want to turn off this feature, follow me.

Property Set Method

If you want to turn off the AutoPlay feature for a single mobile storage device, follow these steps:

1, click "Start → my Computer";

2. Under Devices with Removable Storage, right-click the device you want, such as a digital camera or CD-ROM drive, and then click Properties;

3, click the AutoPlay tab, click the multimedia content that you want to change, select the Select an action to perform check button, and then click Do not perform action. Repeat this step for other multimedia types, and finally "OK".

For removable storage devices other than the optical drive, it must be connected to the computer before it appears under mobile storage devices on my computer.

Ii. Group Policy method

If you want to disable the AutoPlay feature of Windows XP all at once, follow these steps:

1, click "Start → run", in the Open box, type "Gpedit.msc", click "OK" button, open the Group Policy window;

2, in the left pane under Local Computer Policy, expand Computer configuration → administrative Templates → system, and then in the right pane under the "Settings" heading, double-click "Turn off AutoPlay";

3, click the Settings tab, select the Enabled Check button, and then in the Close AutoPlay box, click All drives, click OK, and finally close the Group Policy window.

This "Turn off AutoPlay" setting also exists in User Configuration. However, settings in Computer Configuration take precedence over settings in User Configuration. Note that the "Turn off AutoPlay" setting does not prevent AutoPlay of music CD discs. To prevent the music CD from playing automatically, you only have to use the attribute Setup method.
