Twitter's real-time features are a perfect match for television broadcasts. The complementarity between Twitter and television shows is attractive to TV industry executives. "This is a win-win partnership," said David Morris, CBS Interactive CEO David Molise. "CBS can send Twitter messages to viewers who may be interested in their programs, and advertisers can release marketing information to more audiences." But Morris did not disclose advertisers who worked with CBS on the Amplify project, but said the negotiations were still ongoing. "An advertiser asked us to work with Twitter and pick out 20 of our brands," he said. "Matt Derella, a Twitter executive in charge of America's big advertising clients, said that a joint study by Twitter and market research firm Nelson showed that there was a complementary relationship between Twitter and television," says Matt Delila. TV ratings are positively correlated with Twitter's message traffic. Delila says that playing ads on television and Twitter can enhance the effectiveness of advertising. Twitter, after research, found that users who saw the same product ad on Twitter after watching TV commercials were 58% more likely to buy products than those who watched only TV commercials, "while buying Twitter ads helped boost sales." Increasing advertising revenue is important for Twitter. Twitter has submitted preliminary documents to the Securities and Exchange Commission for listing, as early as possible in November.
