Twitter has started testing a new feature that shows the embedded web sites of popular tweets (tweets, Twitter messages).
A year ago, Twitter launched a strategy to use different ways to increase the interactivity of tweets. As part of the strategy, Twitter has launched Twitter Cards, allowing users to insert multimedia content such as images into tweets and to read them at any time.
Miko Haibon Mikko Hypponen, F Chief Battalion of the Internet security company, discovered in Monday that Twitter had begun testing a new feature that showed popular tweets being embedded in websites. Industry insiders said the move is aimed at increasing Web site interaction and driving traffic growth.
The feature is still in a limited testing phase, and a Twitter spokeswoman declined to comment directly, saying the company has been testing hundreds of new features and new designs.
Whether or not Twitter will launch the feature in the future, the industry says Twitter wants to continue to enhance the interactivity of its platform by showing which sites are used by popular Twitter. That means Twitter can use itself as a broadcast platform to attract advertisers to advertisers who are eager to know where users are logging in, watching and clicking.
