Twitter today announced the acquisition of a big data start-up company Lucky Sort

Lucky Sort chief executive Noya Pey Cooper said the company's "goal is to make large documents easier to analyze and visualize by developing user-friendly text analysis tools."

Twitter or lucky sort did not disclose plans to consolidate the two companies ' business. In post, Mr. Piper said several members of the Lucky sort team would move to San Francisco to join Twitter's revenue-generating technology team.

The ability to understand user behavior and improve advertising targeting improves Twitter's profitability. With Post saying "We will help customers swap other systems in the next few months so we can focus on Twitter," he and his team will be working to help Twitter make better use of the billions of messages that users publish each year.

Lucky sort may also develop new tools that enable Twitter users, such as large advertisers, to better understand how their users use Twitter.

In recent months, Twitter has bought a number of companies to fill the company's product gaps, including the development of our Are hunted for Twitter music applications, the social TV analytics start-up Bluefin Labs, and the downtime Reporting Service crashlytics.
