As a competitor, SNS giant Facebook and the upcoming IPO Twitter have been copying each other's functions: Facebook has followed Twitter to add hashtag tags; Twitter has been using Facebook to improve its profile page; Instagram learned to add the @ feature to Twitter; Twitter, however, imitates Instagram to launch a picture filter.
These features are useful for improving the user experience, regardless of who they draw on. However, Facebook's most important and popular "dot-hop" feature does not seem to have been favored by Twitter.
Twitter has been doing its best to increase user participation. At the end of August this year, the company launched the Blue Timeline, which is designed to give users a clearer picture of the dialogue under the tweets, thereby increasing the number of conversations. Unfortunately, a large number of users complained that the "blue timeline" function is very confusing, the result is that it failed to increase the number of conversations, but became a user of a conversation hotspot.
Previously, Twitter had said that about half of all users were dive users who read only text. "Blue Time Line" in fact, can not successfully inspire the user's desire to dispatch, which with some people like to talk about the table, some people are accustomed to silence is a truth. These silent people say that they are only listening, but sometimes they want others to know they are listening. On the web, this kind of person often needs a "praise" to tell others: we are listening (see).
In fact, Twitter also has a star "favorite" button to meet the needs of users, but the design of the user caused a problem: the collection of a tweet represents the "read later", or "point of praise" or "dislike" it?
By contrast, Facebook and Instagram's Point-and-click features do not cause such trouble. With a bit of praise, users are constantly concerned about how many people praise their content, which may be narcissistic, but there is no doubt that this is true user participation.
To boost user engagement, Twitter should really follow Facebook's "dot-hop" feature, believing that Twitter users will certainly be able to raise their hands.
