Twitter will work with Singapore start-up company U2opia Mobile

Twitter will work with Singapore start-up, U2opia Mobile, to promote its services to entry-level mobile users in emerging markets.

U2opia has also reached a similar agreement with Facebook. Sumesh Menon, the company's CEO and co-founder Sumes Menon, said the company would launch its Twitter service in the first quarter of next year, when users would simply dial a simple code to get news on Twitter's hot trend theme.

At present, more than 11 million users worldwide use U2opia fonetwish services. This service helps mobile phones that do not support data connections to access services such as Facebook and Google Talk. Twitter currently has about 230 million users. The company completed its successful IPO last month, with a valuation of about $25 billion trillion.

U2opia uses a telecommunications protocol called USSD, so it does not support viewing multimedia content such as pictures and videos. "As a carrier, USSD is ideal for Twitter," says Menon. Because Twitter has a word limit in its design, it's a text-driven social network. He also said that 80% of users in emerging markets still do not have access to data services.

U2opia currently operates in 30 countries in 7 international languages. The company will localize the message flow of Twitter based on the location of the user. "As a result, Paraguayan users will no doubt get very localized content, and it will be very different from users in Mumbai or Bangalore," Menon said. ”

U2opia's largest market is in Africa and South America, and its partners include operators such as Telenor, Vodafone and Buddy Telecom. For users accessing the Fonetwish service, U2opia's revenue share with the carrier is typically 30% to 40%.
