Beijing Time May 18 Evening News, the United Auto Workers Union (the "UAW") said in Monday that the key round of restructuring talks between the union and GM is expected to "become more intense this week" because it is now only two weeks away from the Obama administration's deadline for GM's restructuring. The UAW made the forecast in an e-mail to its union workers today and reiterated its opposition to GM's plans to close 16 U.S. factories and cut some 21,000 workers. Under the plan, GM will also increase the number of cars imported from its factories in the lower per capita income areas of Mexico, South Korea and China. (Tangfeng)
