Beijing Time February 28 news, according to Science and technology blog TechCrunch reported that a taxi application Uber Friday, the company database in the last year was not authorized third party intrusion, resulting in about 50,000 drivers information leakage.
Uber, director of data privacy law, Katherine Tassi, posted a blog post in Friday afternoon confirming the intrusion. The invasion occurred in May 2014, leading to the revelation of the names and license plates of some 50,000 Uber drivers in several U.S. states.
Uber said the number of drivers exposed to the invasion was only "a small fraction of the current and former driver partners". So far, there have been no leaks of information being abused. Uber is currently informing the driver of the invasion.
Uber said in post that they found the database hacked in September 2014 and immediately modified the access agreement to begin investigations. Uber did not specify why they had waited so long to announce the invasion or give notice to the affected drivers.
Uber said it would provide free membership to the affected drivers for a one-year Experian Identity Theft protection Service ProtectMyID alert. In addition, Uber submitted a "John Doe" (referring to an unidentified person) lawsuit to find out the identity of the hacker. (Compiling/Xiao Yu)
