Ubuntu 10.04 and Windows XP single hard disk installation dual system

Single hard disk Andi system, formerly HARDY+XP, no CDROM, original partition

Device Id System

/dev/sda2 5 Extended # Extended partition
/DEV/SDA5 Linux # Data partitions, Windows available software read-only, Ubuntu readable and writable, similar to filesystem
/dev/sda6 Linux #/, choose reformat when installing Lucid
/DEV/SDA7 Linux Swap # Swap partition, choose reformat when installing Lucid

Preparation (available in Windows or Hardy)

Download Desktop CD (http://tw.releases.ubuntu.com)
Because it is 32-bit system, so choose Ubuntu-10.04.1-desktop-i386.iso, save in C:\
Extract 2 files from ISO capser (Vmlinuz & Initrd.lz) to C:\

Download Grub4dos (http://download.gna.org/grub4dos/)
Copy Grldr & Grub.exe & menu.lst 3 files to C:\
Modify Menu.lst, add the following, and create a new file that can also

Title Install Ubuntu
Root (hd0,0)
Kernel/vmlinuz Boot=casper Iso-scan/filename=/ubuntu-10.04.1-desktop-i386.iso
Initrd/initrd.lz

If the MBR is later restored to cause the Gurb2 menu to disappear, add the following in Menu.lst

Title Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Find--set-root/boot/grub/core.img
Kernel/boot/grub/core.img
Boot

Modify Windows Boot.ini file, the last line adds c:\grldr= "Grub menu", and the entire Boot.ini file resembles the following

Reboot the computer and enter the live CD
Open the terminal and enter (if you are installing with a CDROM-initiated CD, you do not have to do this)

sudo umount-l/isodevice

Then click Install Ubuntu 10.04 LTS start installation, disconnect the Internet prior to the connection, select the manual mode of partition

Installation complete, reboot, system into Ubuntu, want to see the Grub2 menu, you can hold down the SHIFT key
Confirm network cable Normal connection, set up the relevant parameters of broadband connection
For me, comparing Hardy,lucid NetworkManager is easy, at least I don't have to use WICD anymore.

If you want to use the command line to set static IP and DNS

sudo gedit/etc/network/interfaces #设定IP
sudo gedit/etc/resolv.conf #设定DNS without this file to create a new
sudo/etc/init.d/networking Restart #需要重启networking服务
