Sina Science and technology news Beijing time August 24 morning, according to the U.S. Science and Technology blog website TechCrunch reported that Facebook will close the location of service places, with similar functions "nearby" replaced. Facebook launched its places service about a year ago, and it is believed that location-based services such as Foursquare, Gowalla and Loopt will be threatened. However, Foursquares is now valuing $600 million trillion in the latest round of financing, while Facbook is planning to close places services. Industry insiders point out that it is clear that Facebook does not want to fully withdraw from the location service, but is no longer involved in the signing of the contest. After closing places, Facebook will launch a similar feature "nearby". Facebook was also forced to do so, mainly to reduce privacy-related disputes. But Facebook's statement about its location-servicing adjustment does not explain exactly what these changes mean for the concept of sign-ins. As you can see from the figure below, the check-in function is still part of Facebook's geographic service offerings, but it's not as important as it used to be. (Xuan Chen)
