"Caijing reporter Liu Lu" March 18, the U.S. State Department International Energy Coordinator David Goldwin to the Chinese Government submitted a proposal aimed at promoting the Sino-US cooperation in shale gas (shale) mining. Shale gas is an unconventional natural gas that exists in a shale and is adsorbed and free. It is predicted that the world's shale gas resources are 456 trillion cubic meters, mainly distributed in North America, Central Asia and China, the Middle East and North Africa, Latin America, the former Soviet Union and other regions, shale gas resources potential may even be greater than conventional natural gas. Goldwin March 19 in the U.S. embassy in Beijing told reporters that the proposal has been formally submitted to the Chinese Government, the parties reacted positively to the proposal, specific feedback will be a week to get. Goldwin said that many companies are concerned about the investment prospects in shale gas development. The first step is to identify areas where shale gas can be mined and determine the price of natural gas that is mined. But he said: "According to my exchanges with local companies in China, the shale gas industry in China's development is still in the early stages." Goldwin explained that it was hoped that the proposal and engineers from the US would help China understand where the most potential (shale gas) resources are and how to manage investors in the market. And hope to share experience and technology with China, to provide more information to the Chinese government. He also said there were questions to be answered by the Chinese government, such as the expected return on investment by the Chinese government. Goldwin also stressed that in the end is to invest in development, or with foreign partners to develop cooperation, ultimately, the Chinese government decided. November 17 last year, during the U.S. President Barack Obama's visit to China, the Sino-US Joint Declaration also noted in particular: "Both sides welcomed the launch of the Sino-US shale gas initiative to accelerate the development of unconventional natural gas resources in China." In addition, the two sides also signed the Sino-US Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of shale gas. When asked whether the RMB exchange rate issue will affect the energy cooperation between China and the United States, Goldwin told Caijing reporter that China and the United States have great common interests in regional energy security, and have strong dialogue and cooperation mechanism, and will continue to maintain cooperation and develop dialogue mechanism.
