These days in Webmaster World Forum, a post is very lively, the title is: Google ranking algorithm away from the link, trend flow mode.

The post says Google's ranking algorithm is now increasingly inclined to increase the user's behavior on the site. For example, how long do they stay on the site? What pages did they read? Their access paths and so on.

This post gets a lot of threads. In fact, the idea is not new. In the last one or two years, more and more people have suspected that Google not only consider the site itself optimization and links, but also take into account the user's response on the site.

When Google launched his free log stats service, Google Analytics, I was pretty sure that Google did. Think about why Google is aggressively promoting the use of Google's toolbars. They even paid Dell a lot of money to have the Google Toolbar installed on a Dell-sold computer. This is a very big expense.

If the toolbar does not search for much of the data, Google will not be able to spend such a large price to promote his toolbar. Whenever a user with a Google toolbar is visited, the information is collected by Google.

Even if you do not use Google Toolbar, users go to Google to search the site directly, the computer will be set cookies. The cookie is valid for one year and the user's search is documented.

In addition, there are a lot of websites using Google Adsense. AdSense JavaScript code can also keep track of which pages users have visited, how long they have spent on these pages, and so on.

The third channel for Google to collect user information is the Google Analytics mentioned earlier. This log analysis software used to be paid, Google bought the whole company, and then free of this very good service to the webmaster.

Why does Google do this? Obviously, they want to collect the behavior patterns of ordinary users on the site. For example, your site uses Google Analytics tracking analytics, and Google collects this information when you can analyze user behavior patterns.

So how does Google rank the site through user behavior? for example, a user searches for a keyword directly on Google's homepage, the user clicks the first result, clicks the browser's return key within five seconds, comes back to the Google homepage, and clicks on the third result. In 30 minutes, the user returns to the Google homepage again. Then Google could conclude that a third site would provide users with more useful information than the first. If this pattern repeats itself a lot, then Google may be able to swap the rankings of the two sites.

For example, with the Google toolbar, Google can clearly track what pages a visitor sees on a particular site. How long did you stay on those pages? What path does he use to navigate the entire site? This information can tell Google whether ordinary users really like this site ? What pages do you like?

In theory, the site rankings should consider three factors:

1 site itself, that is, the page search engine optimization.

2 link situation, that is, outside the page optimization.

3 users.

So far, search engines have had difficulty collecting user feedback and information. But there are signs that search engines, and Google in particular, are aggressively developing tools to collect such information.

Of course, the user behavior model into the ranking algorithm, but also may be used by cheaters, like Alexa. I know many people improve Alexa rankings by all kinds of cheating methods. This situation is particularly serious in Chinese websites. A lot of websites know that there is no way to have so much traffic, but the Alexa rankings are very high.

I have also seen a lot of websites in the provision of so-called Alexa extension services. In fact, Alexa is only a sign of your site traffic, is not a generalization. Alexa ranked front, and your site actual traffic is not equal to.

If Google takes too much account of user behavior patterns, it may also cause more people to do similar cheating. For example, after searching from different IP addresses, click on their own site, and then never return to the search engine. All of this can be done automatically with software. So the user behavior pattern and other existing ranking algorithm factors, will certainly be grouped together, so as to achieve a good balance.

Another evidence I've noticed recently is that in Google Talk, when you click on a friend's email address, your clicks are tracked by Google. Is there no reason for this?
