Recently, according to foreign media reports, the Swedish Internet market research company Royal Pingdom (hereinafter referred to as "Pingdom") published a study, the major social network users have the same characteristics of migratory birds: they will be in droves to leave. But unlike migratory birds, these social network users are "flying away and not flying back," without a doubt, the departure of the user group is a huge blow to the social network, behind the users who do not look back, is the social network constantly sounded elegy.

Pingdom reported that, in the case of MySpace, the US social networking site, the once-social-network giant has plummeted from 20 million to around 2 million in just three years. In other words, MySpace lost more than 90% of its users during this time period.

To further substantiate the notion that social networking users are "flying no More", Pingdom also cites three other social networks that have been courted by netizens, Friendster, Bebo and Google's social networking Orkut.

Friendster

In the three-year period, Friendster daily user visits from more than 3 million to about 40,000, the equivalent of user churn up to 99%. Last summer, Friendster decided to stop playing social networking cards and turn the business into social games. However, in view of its current traffic indicators, Friendster's business transformation has not been successful.

Bebo

During the three-year period, Bebo daily user visits were reduced from nearly 3 million to 50,000, the equivalent of a user churn of 98%. The 2008 Bebo was bought by AOL for 850 million dollars, but was sold by AOL in 2010, and the media reported that it was priced at $10 million. The move suggests that the acquisition of Bebo was a very failed investment by AOL.

Orkut

At the beginning of 2011, Orkut's Daily user visit was nearly 60 million, now down to less than 20 million, equivalent to just over a year, with a user churn of 66%. Of course, Google's social networking site is far from being on the verge of extinction, but it is certain that Orkut has reached its peak and started to go downhill. Even in the strongest Brazilian market, Orkut's market dominance is being replaced by Facebook.

Social networking Elegy

Pingdom said the decline in the social network traffic was frightening in terms of user access metrics: The user churn was huge, the time spent was short, and the user went "no longer looking back". This will certainly be a huge blow to the social-networking operators. Because of this, the industry is closely watching which social network will also be a huge loss of users.
