Ventana:hadoop and traditional relational database can coexist

But Hadoop does not replace all existing technologies, according to a study published late last month by Ventana that Hadoop is now working with traditional relational databases (RDBMS).

Hadoop was designed to help businesses manage and process petabytes of data. The attraction of the technology is that it can break down massive amounts of data into smaller chunks to enable faster processing of massive amounts of data using distributed hardware clusters.

Facebook, Amazon, ebay and Yahoo are all using Hadoop to analyze petabytes of unstructured data, which is what traditional relational databases crave.

A survey of more than 160 companies in Ventana company shows that more and more companies are already using Hadoop. The survey found that most of these companies use Hadoop to collect and analyze massive amounts of unstructured data and generate relevant information including logs, event data, search engine results, social networking content, and more.

The survey also found that two-thirds of businesses did not perform advanced analysis and type analysis of data before using Hadoop. However, traditional relational databases still have a reason for existence, and Hadoop technology is slightly inadequate for analyzing transaction data, customer information and call history. This is the advantage of traditional relational database tools, such as traditional structured data.

The report also points to the challenges that Hadoop faces, such as security, the lack of clustering and related technical personnel.
