Verizon's four-quarter push for commercial LTE terminals remains a bottleneck

April 19, according to foreign media reports, Verizon Wireless chief technology officer Richard Lynch said in a report that Verizon will officially launch the commercial LTE service in the fourth quarter of this year.  Previously, Verizon only said it would launch the LTE business service later this year after the test was completed. With the rapid development of global Mobile information, in order to grasp the market opportunities, operators on the next generation of wireless network deployment process is speeding up. The LTE infrastructure market will reach $11.4 billion trillion by 2014, according to Infonetics Research, a leading market investigation firm. The Global Mobile Suppliers Alliance (suppliers Association,gsa) also disclosed in its latest report that up to now, 64 operators in 31 countries have identified the LTE network.  This number has doubled compared with the same period in 2009. At present, the operator for 4G network deployment, is the choice of LTE or WiMAX, there are big differences. At present, although WiMAX in the development of LTE, in the market and the completion of the terminal, there are certain advantages, but LTE, an Up-and-comer, is developing at an alarming rate, seems to overtake WiMAX potential. This from recent years, many operators abandon WiMAX to switch to LTE can be seen.  Verizon's LTE business service timetable will virtually become a potent catalyst to further accelerate the deployment of LTE's commercial network. Verizon recently announced its peak downlink rate of 40Mbps to 50Mbps on the LTE experiment in Boston and Seattle.  The average data transfer rate for LTE, as reported by its engineers, is down from 5Mbps to 12Mbps, up from 2Mbps to 5Mbps.  To further scale the LTE network and provide better service to its users, Verizon plans to launch services in 25 to 30 markets by the end of this year, with a 700MHz band for about 100 million of potential users. In the US market, Verizon is pushing the commercialization of LTE, and Sprint is speeding up the scale of WiMAX.  Currently, Sprint is providing 4G technology in WiMAX in 27 regions of the United States with its partner, Clearwire, and offers a variety of business models, including monthly, business bundling, and unlimited flow usage. For LTE, the business model is still at the exploratory stage because it is just entering the commercialization phase. Verizon believes that new high-bandwidth applications such as real-time multiplayer games,Video conferencing and high-definition video streaming) will become increasingly popular, while LTE better meets the needs of the network.  However, the construction of the LTE network requires a lot of money, so in the future, the cost of the LTE network may be used in the same way as in the current, unlimited network packages will likely not appear in the LTE network package, what the future business model will continue to explore.  Terminal is still the LTE scale commercial bottleneck although global operators have confidence in LTE's business development, the terminal is not popular and its market is difficult to develop, especially the popularity of LTE handsets. Mobile phone as a common communication tool, users can use it to achieve voice communication, e-mail delivery, Web browsing and so on.  In recent years, mobile phones have been given more functions, including video applications, online games and so on. From the development of 3G and Wi-Fi, mobile phone has undoubtedly become an important tool to promote the development of its industrial chain. Clearly, the interests of WiMAX and LTE have also noticed the problem.  The WiMAX industry has accelerated the development of cell phone chips since last year and has been successful in many carriers ' commercial networks. Currently, LTE voice standards are in the process of development, but also lack of terminal support, which means that the LTE network in the next period of time will only be able to host data services.  Verizon is also actively planning the launch of the LTE handset terminal. "Verizon will also be ready to provide its customers with new products based on the U.S. first 4G LTE network," says Ivan Seidenberg, Verizon's chief executive, "as global equipment makers, manufacturers and other companies begin to introduce newer, faster products." We plan to launch the first LTE-based 4G smartphone in 2011. Verizon's first 4G smartphone is likely to use a dual-chip model to switch between 4G networks and 3G networks. "It is clear that Verizon's attention to LTE is no less than the scale of the network deployment, which is, of course, the key to determining whether Verizon's LTE network will succeed in the first step."  In the future, with the improvement of the LTE network of more operators, more chip manufacturers and terminal providers will join in to promote the commercial network and service development of LTE.
