With the technology wave of SOA, Web2.0, cloud computing and so on, the application of virtualization is turning to cloud computing, so how can virtualized data centers be managed?

In the view of the user, traditional x86 computing patterns need to be bundled with hardware, operating systems, and applications, and as the user system grows, there are a number of challenges, such as the accompanying inflexible infrastructure, which results in a delay in deploying the application and its corresponding availability, Security and scalability are also greatly discounted, resource utilization is also a serious shortage of conditions.

In addition, the advent of new technologies, such as SOA, Web2.0, and cloud computing, also poses new challenges to the existing operating environment.

In particular, the current hot-fired cloud computing, its large data center and the composition of various related hardware is actually based on virtualization technology. Therefore, the application of virtualization technology to cloud computing is imperative. Vdc-os (Virtualdatacenteros), which is extended by the virtualization infrastructure Suite, is the virtual Datacenter operating system created using cloud computing technology.

Expand Virtual Architecture

Vdc-os is used to control entire data centers and cloud systems, including all hardware, software, and virtual machines. By Vdc-os, the user can realize the requirement of increasing computing capacity on demand. That is, the computing power of the datacenter does not become a bottleneck because of operating system constraints when additional computing resources are needed. For example, the traditional operating system is limited to the number of CPUs in the system, and based on virtualization technology, this limitation will be excluded, the data center in the expansion of computing power, availability and security can be significantly improved.

Architecturally, Vdc-os is on the CPU, the operating system, and the application software. It expands the virtual architecture in three main areas:

First, it provides a set of infrastructure services (infrastructurevservices) that seamlessly aggregates servers, storage devices, and networks into "on-demand" cloud resource pools and assigns them to the applications that need them most;

Second, it provides a set of application services (applicationvservices) that ensure that all applications are kept at the right level of availability, security, and extensibility, regardless of the operating system, development framework, or architecture that they are designed to run on;

Finally, Vdc-os also provides a set of cloud services (cloudvservices) to centralize the computational capacity between "on demand" and "standby" clouds. Unlike traditional operating systems that are optimized for a single server and only support applications that write to their interfaces, Vdc-os can act as an operating system throughout the data center, supporting any kind of application written to any operating system-whether it is a previous Windows application, or a distributed application running in a mixed operating system environment today.

In other words, with full virtualization of the data center, Vdc-os integrates all hardware (including servers, storage, and networks) into a single logical resource, creating a single computer that improves the efficiency and flexibility of the system, as well as the usability and scalability of the application software.

"Not operating System"

Formally, Vdc-os is now known as the operating system because it provides two basic functions of the operating system: managing the underlying hardware, and providing the application with availability, security, and extensibility services. Traditional operating systems are typically optimized for a single server and support only those applications written for their interfaces. The Vdc-os role is the "operating system" of the entire data center, and supports any applications written for any operating system-from traditional Windows applications to modern distributed applications running in a mixed operating system environment.

In other words, although nominally an operating system, Vdc-os is not a set of operating systems, but a cross-platform management tool. For example, in the past, such as ERP and database applications, because of the need for a large number of I/O and computing power, not suitable for virtualized environment, but Vdc-os is to break the limit across the entity server, if you encounter the need for a large amount of computing applications, through the Vdc-os platform can integrate all operations Storage and network resources, so that 1 of large applications can disassemble a number of tasks, through the vdc-os of computing work to different servers, and the resulting data automatically stored in different storage devices, to achieve the enterprise internal cloud computing purposes.
