VMware launched the vsphere 5 and also launched the cloud infrastructure suite, including the launch of Vcloud Diretor 1.5. Vcloud Director is created based on vsphere, which enables customers to pool resources from data centers, integrate computing, storage, and network resources into virtual data centers (VDC), and provide these resources through a service portal interface to users based on user requirements.

The latest version of Vcloud Director 1.5 will employ the associated cloning technology, enabling customers to deploy virtual machines from templates, reducing time to just 5 seconds, and storing costs down to 60%. The enhanced Vcloud API and the newly introduced extensions enable customers to integrate VMware Vcloud director into their existing IT management tools, such as configuration Management database (CMDB) and IT Service Management (ITSM) systems. At the same time, database extensions support Microsoft SQL, with new support for 6 localized languages.
