VMware today unveiled the latest open source project--serengeti, which enables companies to quickly deploy, manage, and extend Apache Hadoop in virtual and cloud environments. In addition, VMware works with the Apache Hadoop community to develop extension capabilities that allow major components to "perceive virtualization" to support flexible scaling and further improve the performance of Hadoop in virtualized environments.
Chen Zhijian, vice president of cloud applications services at VMware, said: "The Apache Hadoop has the potential to bring business change by enabling companies to gain a competitive advantage by leveraging large data." It represents an aspect of fundamental change in application, and businesses are looking for ways to integrate these new technologies into their product families. VMware, in collaboration with the Apache Hadoop community, enables enterprise IT departments to easily deploy and manage Hadoop in virtual and cloud environments. ”
Apache Hadoop is actually becoming a standard for large data processing, but the complexity of deployment and operations, specific hardware requirements, security concerns, and service level guarantees make it impossible for many businesses to fully exploit the power of Hadoop. By stripping the Apache Hadoop nodes from the underlying physical infrastructure, VMware can bring the benefits of the cloud infrastructure to Hadoop, including rapid deployment, high availability, optimal resource utilization, flexible and secure multi-tenant.
Users with Apache 2.0 licenses can download Serengeti for free, a one-click Deployment Toolkit that enables organizations to deploy highly available Apache Hadoop clusters within minutes, including Apache, with VMware vsphere® platforms Common Hadoop components such as pig and Apache hive. By using Serengeti to run Hadoop on VMware vsphere, organizations can easily enjoy the high availability, fault tolerance, and onsite migration capabilities of a trusted, widely deployed global virtualization platform to achieve the availability and manageability of the Hadoop cluster.
"To be a leader in the enterprise IT infrastructure, Hadoop must meet the technical and practical needs of the enterprise IT department," said Tony Baer, chief analyst at Ovum. The resource-intensive nature of large data clusters enables Hadoop to support virtualization. VMware's participation in the Apache Hadoop project and VMware's latest Serengeti Apache project is a very important initiative that provides the flexibility required for the development and deployment of Hadoop prototypes. ”
VMware works with leading Apache Hadoop distributors such as Cloudera, Greenplum, Hortonworks, IBM, and MAPR for wide distribution.
Virtualization extensions, spring updates help organizations build and operate large data applications
To simplify and accelerate enterprise use Apache Hadoop, vmware to collaborate with the Apache Hadoop community to update the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) and Hadoop MapReduce project to enable it to perceive virtualization, This enables data and computing to be optimally distributed in the virtual infrastructure. These changes enable organizations to achieve a more flexible, secure, and highly available Hadoop cluster.
VMware also released the update of spring for Apache Hadoop, the first open source project released in February 2012, to enable enterprise developers to easily exploit the Apache Hadoop to develop distributed processing solutions. These updates support the ease with which spring developers can develop enterprise applications that integrate with HBase databases, cascading libraries, and Hadoop. Spring for Apache Hadoop is available for free download and can now be obtained through Open source Apache 2.0 licenses.
These projects and new features are designed to speed up the use of Hadoop and enable enterprises to fully utilize large data analysis applications such as Cetas to gain real-time intelligence insights from massive data. VMware acquired the Cetas, cetas Analytics service in April 2012 and is currently available on the Www.cetas.net website.
