On July 27, Wal-Mart is placing its Vudu video streaming and leasing services on its Wal-Mart website to attract more consumers. This is the latest move by Wal-Mart to become the main destination for shoppers in traditional stores and online stores.
Wal-Mart acquired the Vudu service last year to deliver movies and TV shows to computers, certain televisions, Blu-ray DVD players and Sony PS3 consoles.
Wal-Mart is reluctant to disclose how many people are currently using the service, but Wal-Mart says Vudu services continue to grow rapidly. Wal-Mart does not offer a monthly subscription service like Netflix's rivals.
Vudu General Manager Edward Lichiti Edward Lichty said that since Christmas, our user base has grown three times times. He added that Wal-Mart shoppers were a growing part of the VUDU business.
Before the Tuesday, Vudu actually operated on his own. Now, shoppers browsing the Wal-Mart Web site can order a DVD to send to their home, or buy or rent a digital version at a Wal-Mart store and send it directly to consumers from the Wal-Mart website.
Vudu's film rental fee is $1 to $5.99, and 3D movies are rented at $3.99 to 6.99 dollars. The purchase price of ordinary movies is 4.99 to 19.99 dollars. The purchase price of 3D Films is 11.99 to 21.99 dollars.
