Sina Science and technology news May 16 afternoon, Tudou, a former founder and CEO, is the founder of Wang Animation yesterday at the National University of Singapore published Innovfest 2013 keynote speeches. For the timing of entrepreneurship, he thinks it's as mysterious as time and unpredictable, and the best time is up to your heart.

In his speech, Wang shared two stories, one about anger and the other about timing.

Anger is rooted in Wang's own growth process, and family life is closely related, and this has become his creation video web site Tudou driving force, he said: "Because the talent can not be cast and angry." Good works can't be seen by more people, and too many people indulge in TV programs that numb the brain. ”

As for the timing of entrepreneurship, he believes there is no good time or bad timing. "Tens of thousands of economists work hard every day to analyze those big trends and small fluctuations. Millions of stock traders are looking forward to buying or selling stocks or index funds at the right time. It's like a good dish, the Bollywood man once said, ' Nobody knows anything. ' Time, like God, runs in mysterious ways. The timing is unpredictable. ”

"If you have this disease: you can't sleep all night because of an idea, eat a fork in a cup instead of a plate, like an excited parrot, talk to people who are willing to listen to your thoughts, or you can keep a secret for too long to hide." Well, that's the best time. The timing is determined by your heart. "he said.

The following is a transcript of Wang Innovfest's 2013 keynote speeches at the National University of Singapore:

Thank you very much. I'm usually reluctant to speak at this kind of event organized by the school, especially in such a good university, because I used to like to skip classes instead of classes. I'm afraid I'll set a bad example for you.

I just had my 40 birthday a few days ago. When I was very young, I often think of old people, such as those over 18 years old, how their lives should be lethargic. However, I am 18 years old after each birthday will be very pleasantly surprised to find that the state of worry is not bad, life is still honed and fun both. Just a few days ago, I saw a message on Sina Weibo saying that the UN has just defined anyone under the age of 44 as "young". I breathed a sigh of relief. I'm a young man--officially, the UN says so! Of course, perhaps this is a Weibo spread of the people believe that the story, but at the age of 40 can be reborn as a youth, it is very good.

Therefore, I am not here today as an old person, but I share a few stories with you in the way young people face young people.

The first story is about anger.

My father was born in Singapore before independence. My grandfather came to this land in early 20th century to settle down. Family legend, my grandfather was working for the colonial police force, the only Chinese official there, and his sideline was smuggling people from his old home. You could say it's a population thief, but it's a good one. When he was 30, he died suddenly without warning. Since then during the war, to escape the Japanese, my grandmother took the family back to the old village in Fuzhou. On the way to escape, she lost all her possessions and was forced to send two of her children. In fact, she did not really escape from the Japanese, and later trapped in China until her death, in the turbulent years have been vicissitudes. In my memory, although Grandma is old, she is still beautiful, intelligent-and full of deep anger.

Father grew up on the mainland. He did a good job and became a respected doctor. However, when I was young, I remembered that he also had a deep anger, mainly due to missed opportunities, lost freedom. His dream is to travel around the world, explore the mountains, swim in the Colorado, R.. In real life, his only memorable swim was to escape the Red Guards and swim across a river. Now he is nearly 80, walking inconvenience, when he finally saw the Colorado, R., also can not swim.

So, this angry emotion exists in my childhood consciousness and is accompanied by my growth. If you knew me then, you might not be able to see that a small child could be so full of rage. At that time I was angry at school, angry about education, and full of disgust and hatred for everything related. This sentiment has driven me for many years: to leave China and reach the United States. Leave the United States and reach France. Leave France and go back to China. Try, lose the thief, try again.

Even so, I was lucky. I had a chance to explore that my father had never had, and my grandfather had been dead for years at my age.

For me, anger did not make me a cage beast, constantly scratching my heart, but became a relentless driving force. The establishment of potatoes also stems from anger, because talent can not be cast and angry. Good works can't be seen by more people, and too many people indulge in TV programs that numb the brain. Innovation, the effort to start a business, overcome an unavoidable obstacle, maps pour, climb up, and then move on, and then dominate, these are difficult for anyone. Anger, giving me the initial drive and the support I made in the first few years of starting potatoes.

For the audience of some future entrepreneurs, I hope you and I can find their own driving force. I also hope that your motivation is a relatively more positive but still effective emotion.

The second story I want to share with you is about timing.

Sometimes I get asked the question: What's the best time to start a business? After graduating from school? After a few years of work? When the market is going up, when it's going up? Is it early?

When I started making potatoes in the early 05, the timing was poor by most measures. We are the first one, before YouTube, so there is no comparable American precedent. At that time, China's internet industry was still digesting the cushion generated during the bubble years, with little new venture capital in that area. China's economy is five years old, so money and talent are playing in traditional industries, and it's hard to find like-minded people. So for a while, potatoes don't have a lucky start. We managed to get 500,000 dollars and gave up a 30% stake in the company. I thought it was good.

Subsequently, the Internet industry began to flourish quickly. At the end of 2005, venture capital began to return to the network industry, the beginning of a trickle, but quickly became the Tao River. Only 6 months after our first round of financing, the value of potatoes has doubled 20 times-fold, and it has been growing ever since. Broadband extension makes video browsing quickly become an important online activity. The number of users is almost 5 to 10 times times the monthly growth rate. Now it seems that the time to set up potatoes in the early days is good, and we can accumulate brands and audiences in advance and benefit from the new situation.

Then, inevitably, the situation repeats itself. The financial crisis, the Internet video surveillance strengthened, China's internet stocks boom and bust. A moment to say good timing, a moment to say bad timing. A moment to say that the timing is very good, and then say sorry, the timing is very bad. The word timing was tossed around like an acrobat.

In fact, for a young start-up enterprise, there is no so-called good timing or bad timing. Tens of thousands of economists work hard every day to analyze those big trends and small fluctuations. Millions of stock traders are looking forward to buying or selling stocks or index funds at the right time. Like a good dish, the Bollywood man once said, "No one knows anything." "Time, like God, runs in a mysterious way." The timing is unpredictable.

If you have this disease: you can't sleep all night because of an idea, eating a fork in a cup instead of a plate, like an excited parrot, is too long for someone who is willing to listen to your thoughts, or if you've been guarding a secret for too iong to hide. Well, that's the best time.

The timing is determined by your heart.

This is the two stories I want to share.

20 years ago I was young, filled with anger, the so-called "angry youth." Now I am not so angry, and no matter how much I or the Taiwan Nation is wishful thinking, the fact is that I am no longer young. Confucius once said: "40 perplexed." "Perhaps."

In fact, I prefer another famous saying about Confucius. When Confucius let his disciples say personal dreams, he likes to have a point of the answer: "Mo Chun, Chun-fu, the crown of five or six people, the lad six or seven people, Bath is Yi, the wind is dancing 雩, Yong and return." "I don't think there is any profound philosophy in this remark. Just as an elder, Confucius appreciates the young and indifferent Zeng.

About 6 weeks ago, I started a new business: an animated film company. Our plan is to produce high-quality animated films, the main audience is family, especially in the Chinese world. Building something new, completing it, or even eventually letting it go, and then coming back again, is the way to keep young and energetic, as it has long been.

So, for those of you who are about to embark on a long journey, I wish you a long, youthful and energetic life. Thank you.
