Yesterday Aereo, the Internet TV provider, was auctioned off by the bankruptcy court, with a price of only 2 million dollars. TiVo, a digital video recorder, acquired Aereo's trademark, customer list and other assets. Originally Aereo expected to sell at least 4 million to 31.2 million dollars in value.

It took only three years for the company to be sued, bankrupt and auctioned.

Aereo is a network television company established in February 2012 to provide users with a live TV broadcast on the Internet. By erecting a TV antenna in the city and receiving the sky's original free circuit TV signal, Aereo will deliver the content to the data Center for processing and then provide it to the user. The 8-dollar package replaces the more expensive set-top box, but the toll TV signal is not available.

In addition to the more than 10-second delay, the content that is broadcast through the Aereo is exactly the same as that of the TV. In the context of the Internet, fewer people will sit in front of the television, Aereo using terminals to provide new possibilities for people to watch TV.

Once the capital markets were very bullish on the technology-driven startups that could stir backwater's cable TV market. Aereo has received nearly 100 million dollars in financing:

February 2012 Aereo received 20.5 million dollars in a round of financing, IAC, the latter's CEO Barry Diller joined the Aereo board; January 2013 Aereo received 38 million dollar B-round financing, IAC and Highland capital At the same time, Aereo extended the service to 22 cities in the United States, and in January 2014, Aereo completed the 34 million-dollar C-round financing by IAC, InterActiveCorp, Gordon Crawford and Himalaya Capital Management with the vote.

The rapid development of Aereo cannot conceal its potential legal risks, but this kind of good user, does not pay to the content provider any broadcast fee the way has harmed many broadcast television company interest. In order to avoid copyright disputes, Aereo each user with an antenna, indicating that they provide pure technical support. But clearly, this is not the case in the face of traditional radio and television companies. Only one months after the advent of Aereo, a number of broadcasters, including CBS, Comcast, News Corp and Walt, filed lawsuits.

Although the district Court dismissed the company's request for a ban on Aereo, it could not stop the roaring radio stations behind, and companies such as ABC, Fox, NBC, CBS and PBS also joined the lawsuit. The case was appealed to the United States Supreme Court in December 2013. The June 2014 U.S. Supreme Court ruled with a 6:3 vote that the company's business was in breach of copyright law and that the business was eventually halted. In November of that year, Aereo filed for bankruptcy protection.

Now you open Aereo's homepage and see only the CEO Chet Kanojia a letter to all the former customers:

We started this journey because the system is fragmented and no longer serves users ... Aereo. But we met the strong sniper of the existing media company.

Chet Kanojia has started working with some of Aereo's former colleagues on the new Project Decibel project, and the specifics of the project are still unknown.
