The most unfortunate thing about cloud storage is that it is often considered a big grocery store where you can dump any data you might need later. But the truth is, even today, you can use it to do more things. Suppose we want the cloud to dump redundant data somewhere on the Internet, what should you expect the cloud storage software to do?
As I've talked about before, cloud storage software can be loaded into your servers and storage to create your own cloud, or it can be placed on a critical cloud storage system that is available. Whatever the software can do, how it can do this is an important decision basis for choosing cloud storage.
The first feature is data distribution. This is the essential feature of cloud software. The cloud is a global network with data scattered all over the world. The most obvious way to use this capability is as a data protection feature. If you want to allocate critical data to four different data centers.
Then it is important that some software solutions are based on the number of copies of the business strategy.
This can be used as an additional protection function or to manage files. For example, if you have just released the latest version of the software, you may want to tune in a high number of copies and access points for a period of time to meet the initial download requirements, and then increase the number of low copies on the primary and backup backup after the initial wave of downloads has subsided. When your next version of the software is ready to be released, you may want to turn off all the major access points in the previous version and keep only one in the archive.
We can also combine this feature of cloud software with geography. For example, you may want to ensure that users on the west Coast can download software from the West Coast Data center, and European users download it from the European data center. Then the software needs the network interface to direct the user to the nearest storage point.
Clearing is another important feature, especially if the software drives external services. This capability charges users based on capacity and bandwidth and can then be consolidated into existing billing systems. This is very important because eventually you may want to use this service to make money. It's a common idea to profit from a bad environment.
From a more fundamental standpoint, security and redundancy are a prerequisite. One feature that is often missed is that the software must have the ability to migrate itself or what I call the scrolling architecture. We will move a large array from one to the other, and I believe it is not a quick and easy process for most of us. Multiply this number by 10 times or 100 times times. The cloud platform must be flexible and you can easily migrate from one system to another. The software supports mixed nodes and allows new technologies to seamlessly integrate old technologies. This allows the old parts of the storage system to be completed in a single change.
A fully-enabled cloud storage System is much more useful than a few inexpensive disks linked to the Internet. Cloud software must take advantage of the Internet deployment to make it more attractive than local data centers.
