To some extent, almost all network users are now consumers of cloud services, but in reality there are not many network users who actually use cloud storage services.
Nscreenmedia, a digital media consultancy, published research data showing that 90% of U.S. broadband users interviewed had at least heard of the concept of "cloud storage," but only 29% said they were using the service. In addition, half of the respondents claimed that they had never heard of the "cloud storage Service" or had not used it. There is also a part of the person who knows nothing about it.
This is an excellent opportunity for cloud storage companies to build their own user base. In particular, cloud storage services such as icloud, Dropbox and Microsoft OneDrive will grow rapidly in the coming years as more and more users begin to consciously store their data, files, and media content in the cloud.
"There is not a single winner in the current competition in cloud storage, perhaps because they have different capabilities," said a recent report by BI FDI, a market research arm of the Business Insider. For example, box is popular in the corporate market, while Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive are highly compatible with Google and Microsoft's other services respectively.
For those who already use cloud services, their particular appeal is to want all their data and information to be synchronized seamlessly in the cloud. For the enterprise, cloud service means the important means to keep users in the ecosystem of their products.
Here are five key ideas for how users use cloud services in the BI FDI report:
1. The current market for the use of cloud services is quite mature. Around 90% of the world's internet users are "cloud users," and that number continues to rise as the number of Internet users in the world increases.
2. As the cloud services market matures, mobile devices are exploding in the use of cloud services. Mobile consumers store and watch movies, sync their applications, files, and data on different devices through cloud storage services. We estimate that mobile device cloud storage data traffic in the 2013-2018-year annual composite growth rate will reach 63%. This number is nearly twice times higher than the average cloud-storage data flow rate of 22%.
3. Although user usage is very high, consumer awareness of the value of cloud services remains low. While most web users are using cloud based sites and apps, they are still confused about cloud computing and its usefulness, figuring out how to help them better manage digital services, the survey found.
4. For cloud-based services, there are enormous opportunities for consumer penetration and usage. For example, the number of users using cloud storage applications, such as Dropbox, Google Drive, remains low.
5. There is currently no absolute winner in the Global cloud storage field. With the iphone in the market, Apple's icloud has taken advantage of the competition, but now companies, including Amazon, Microsoft and Google, are overtaking Apple worldwide. In addition, professional cloud services companies such as Dropbox and Evernote want to build their own platforms.
