When cloud computing is on the rise, http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/13779.html "> Information data explosion, the data center's energy problem is also becoming increasingly serious." It is estimated that today's data centers consume 1.5% of the world's electricity, and the cost of electricity is as high as $26 billion a year. Faced with another problem in the information age, Intel has developed a variety of new technologies to help users solve the problem. Nick Knupffer, Intel Asia Pacific Data Center Business Marketing Project manager, shared with us a number of future technologies for Intel's solution to the problem.
High ambient temperature (HTA) data center
As we all know, traditional hardware and existing settings and service level agreements (SLAs), existing data centers often need to cool the temperature between 18-21ºc, on average, for cooling the data center of the power consumption of approximately 40% of the total data center power consumption. But many data centers can actually be carried out in high temperatures around 27ºc, without major modifications. and dedicated high-temperature-resistant data centers can operate at 40ºc and even higher temperatures.
High temperature operation
In view of this situation, Intel proposes to establish a high ambient temperature (HTA) data center that lowers cooling costs and increases energy efficiency to support higher operating temperatures in data centers. Hardware that works in this high-temperature environment needs to be better adapted to higher operating temperatures, and Intel is actively promoting the formation of HTA Data Center specifications together with other organizations such as the Green Grid Alliance (GREENGRID) and the European Union.
This is not wishful thinking, and Facebook has tasted the benefits of this technology. The company has rebuilt its data center in California State Santa Clara, transforming its data center to work in 27ºc's high-temperature environment, saving $229,000 a year on energy spending and getting federal government energy subsidies of nearly 300,000 dollars.
Facebook's HTA app
Yahoo!computing Coop, a Yahoo computing hut, also uses HTA technology, a data center that does not contain cooling equipment in a working environment. Only a few days a year the data center needs water to cool it (the Pue index is about 1.08). With an average of 100% of natural airflow, less than 1% of the building's total power consumption is used for cooling.
Intel platforms that support HTA environments
Power and thermal Awareness scheduling (PTAS)
Another of Intel's British technology is power and thermal awareness scheduling (PTAS). Based on Intel's node manager and Datacenter Manager, PTAs provides power, thermal, and workload intelligence through the platform to support dynamic resource management. The algorithm can reduce operating costs by about 20% while restoring up to 50% of unused heat dissipation and maximizing operational efficiency.

If the World Data center will work temperature increase ºc ...
As mentioned above, improving the operating temperature of the data center is feasible, and some companies are already using these technologies, so what if the application of high temperature data center technology to data centers around the world? This is not just a thought or assumption, according to the current situation, if the world's data centers to increase the working temperature average ºc, we can see the following changes:
Immediate realization of energy savings of $2.16 billion a year.
8% reduction in global data center power consumption. Save 24.3 billion degrees of electricity. This is about the equivalent of more than one months of total power consumption in Spain, South Africa, Australia or Taiwan.
Carbon dioxide emissions are equal to 1.7 million tonnes.
