When Windows 8 was released, vendors wanting to get the "Designed for Windows 8" logo needed to meet a range of Microsoft requirements, including support for UEFI Secure boot. While this is a useful security feature, it also poses problems for users who want to install a second operating system on their computers. While Microsoft later asked vendors to add the option to turn off secure boot to allow devices to run other operating systems, Windows 10 now brings its own set of rules.
UEFI Secure boot can effectively prevent malware from interfering with the system's startup process, and when this feature is turned on, the core part requires the correct encryption signature when starting the computer. The startup process will not continue until the UEFI firmware authenticates the signature. The UEFI firmware will not allow the system to boot when a file is detected or the signature is corrupted.
In Windows 8, users can turn off this security feature or add their own encryption certificates and signatures so that the computer can run other operating systems while it is protected.
At the WinHEC conference in Shenzhen, Microsoft talked about the hardware requirements of Windows 10. Although the final configuration requirements are not finalized, Microsoft does mention that vendors can now choose whether to include options that allow users to turn off the secure boot feature. If you choose not to join, users who have purchased the "designed for Windows 10" identification product will not be able to run the second operating system and are not allowed to add their own signatures or certificates.
Microsoft has not made any positive response to the problem.
