Windows 7 remote Server Administration Tools Microsoft offers free downloads

The Windows 7 Remote server Management tool (RSAT) is currently available for free downloads at the Microsoft Download Center, including a 215.1MB 32-bit version and a 222.1MB 64-bit version. With the Remote Server Administration tool RSAT, administrators can remotely administer http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/13975.html on clients that have Windows 7 systems installed >windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008, or Windows Server 2003 servers roles and attributes.

The following components are included in the RSAT:

Server Management tool (server Administration Tools): Servers Manager

Role Administration Tools: Includes Active Directory Certificate Services (AD CS, Active Directory Authentication Service) tools, Active Directory Domain Services (ad DS, Active Directory Domain Services) tool, Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services (AD LDS, Lightweight directory service), DHCP tools, DNS tools, File Services tools, Hyper-V tools, Terminal Services tools, etc.

Feature management tools (Feature Administration Tools): Includes BitLocker password Recovery Viewer, cluster Recovery tool, Group Policy Management tool, Network Load Balancing tool, SMTP server, Storage Manager, SAN Storage Manager, Windows Explorer, and so on.

XP migration is the key to Windows 7 success

IT pros now have access to a new Windows7 Release Candidate (RC)-compatible remote server Management tool that Microsoft released to the public last week.

These tools are part of the Microsoft Windows 7RC (BUILD7100) Remote Server Administration Tool (RSAT). Users can download versions for x86 or x64 systems from here.

Microsoft cautions that these tools are only for testing purposes, not for product-level environments.

RSAT enables IT administrators to "Manage roles and Features" in Windows Server 2008r2 by running Windows 7 computers remotely. The tool supports both the Server Core and the fully installed version of Windows Server 2008 R2.

According to Microsoft's product description, you can also use the tool to remotely manage "some roles and features" in WindowsServer2008 or 2003. One exception is that the new tool cannot be used for the WINDOWSSERVER2003 Server Core implementation version.

Microsoft has made some limitations in RSAT's release notes. Earlier versions of the tool-including the WINDOWSSERVER2003 and 2000 system Management kits and Vista rsat--should be uninstalled before installing a new version. Microsoft reminds IT professionals that each computer should install only one copy of RSAT.

John Howard, senior project manager for the Hyper-V team, explains in this blog that after installing this tool, you may need to open the Hyper-V tool in the WINDOWS7RC Control Panel. To enable remote administration, you also need to configure the server.

Windows 7RC RSAT includes Microsoft Server Manager and various role and feature management tools. IT professionals can remotely manage roles in the Active Directory (activedirectory), Hyper-V, Terminal Services, and DHCP and DNS servers. The tool's capabilities also include support for BitLocker password Recovery, Group Policy Management, and Windows Resource management.
