Windows Azure Marketplace DataMarket for Excel plug-in

As part of the Windows Azure Marketplace scenario, we have released a beta version of DataMarket for Excel 2010, which helps users discover, buy, and use datasets published on DataMarket. The plug-in helps information workers complete the analysis task by integrating the premium dataset on the DataMarket with local business data.

The main advantages of the plug-in:

accessing Premium and exposing datasets
Windows Azure Marketplace DataMarket provides one-stop service for trustworthy premium and open data. DataMarket brings data, images, and real-time services from leading business data providers as well as public data sources at authoritative institutions. The DataMarket plug-in enables users to access these datasets in Excel2010, making it easy to access, integrate, and analyze data for different business applications.

Enhanced analysis and insight
Powerful Microsoft Excel can import enterprise data and complete analysis tasks. However, importing premium business data in the past is not easy for Excel. This is because business data is generally available in a variety of formats and is provided by different data providers. The plug-in can be connected to DataMarket (one-stop service), users can download the corresponding premium data set immediately according to the business requirements.

Users can easily integrate the premium business data with the internal data of the enterprise to complete the analysis task and enhance the insight into the data.

Familiar tools, similar user experience

After installing the plugin, we can see the following New button in the Data tab of Excel 2010: Import data from DataMarket

After clicking the button, the following interface appears, input Accountkey, and after landing, the data source you have ordered is displayed.

About Accountkey can login https://datamarket.azure.com, with your LiveID login, register.

The data source is as follows:

Clicking on the import data connection for one of the sources will appear with a wizard dialog box, as shown below:

You can choose which fields to import the data, set the filter, and the number of returned data, and so on.

We can then generate some data reports for the analysis task.
