Windows Azure will set up a data center in the Brazilian region

Earlier today, at an event in Sao Paulo, Brazil, I announced our plan to set up a Windows http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/13357.html ">azure Regional data Center in Brazil." We hope the Regional centre will be available in early 2014, and we are pleased to announce that we are starting to attract preview customers in the next 4-6 weeks. This announcement indicates that we will enter the South American market for the first time following the announcement of our partner 21Vianet to enter Japan, Australia and China.

With the establishment of this regional centre, Brazil's new and old customers-including those who have been following us since we entered Brazil in the spring of 2010-will be able to experience better performance after a reduced latency and be able to keep their data in Brazil. Brazilian regulations on data management have been evolving, and customers using the Brazilian Regional Centre will be able to select local redundant storage (LRS), which will retain three copies of their data and will not replicate their data to outside Brazil. Cross-domain redundant storage (GRS) is still the default option when creating storage accounts, because by storing data in a second zone, you can provide the highest durability, in which case the south-central United States will be the main area of redundancy for customers using the Brazilian Regional Center.

Entering the Brazilian market is an exciting time, and today's announcement shows that we will remain committed to the global development of the Windows Azure business and continue to provide quality services to our Brazilian customers, such as Boa Vista, which relies on Windows Azure to run its business Serviços, Globosat and Linx.
