Abstract: Governments and the international community are also increasingly realizing that investing in young people and ensuring their exercise of human rights not only benefit young people themselves, but also create demographic dividends for the country. Osoti Mehsin said UNFPA will give its full support to all actions to realize the aspirations of young people and to promote youth as the core of development work at the national and global levels.
July 11 is World Population Day. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Oshti Meinxin, Executive Director of UNFPA, made speeches respectively and called on the international community to provide 1.8 billion young people worldwide with the resources and opportunities to fully realize their potential.
In a written statement for World Population Day, Oshti Mehsin, the UNFPA Executive Director, said that as many as 1.8 billion young people around the world form a powerful new force that is changing the global social and economic situation, and that they Challenge existing norms and values to lay the foundation for global future development.
As a result, governments and the international community are also increasingly recognizing that investing in young people and ensuring their exercise of human rights not only benefit young people themselves, but also create demographic dividends for their country.
Osoti Mei Hin pointed out that making early investments in the area of sexual and reproductive health is crucial to improving the lives of young people and increasing social welfare. After entering adolescence, millions of young people worldwide are more vulnerable to human rights violations, including sexuality, marriage and childbirth, as a result of physical changes. Therefore, UNFPA places young people, especially adolescent girls, at the center of their work.
Osoti Mehsin said UNFPA will give its full support to all actions to realize the aspirations of young people and to promote youth as the core of development work at the national and global levels.
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon also delivered a speech in which he pointed out that too many young people in today's world are deprived of the opportunities they deserve. On World Population Day, he called for all influential parties to prioritize youth in their development plans and to strengthen their partnership with youth-led organizations to involve young people in all the decision-making processes associated with them.
Ban Ki-moon stressed that empowerment of today's young people will lay the foundation for a more sustainable future for future generations. (Xiao Fan, headquartered in New York, United Nations)
