Now, the Wall Street Journal learned from people familiar with the matter that Yahoo China's job cuts spread to 200 to 300 people, accounting for about 2% of the company's global workforce of 12,500 people. Yahoo has also been downsizing in Bangladesh, India and Canada in recent months.
Yahoo Beijing Research and Development Center is the company in mainland China's only entity operating location, is a major engineers of the research and Development Center.
Yahoo's Chinese home yahoo.cn has started to transfer visitors to its Singapore website.
The layoff is the latest step in a series of cuts by Yahoo CEO Mayer. Including the latest round of layoffs, Yahoo has abolished 700 to 900 employees since last October, mostly outside the United States.
