Keywords What this function can

Nearly 700 million users have spent a lot of time on Facebook, and maybe everyone has a set of ideas about what Facebook should offer, depending on what people do with Facebook.

Facebook has been adding functionality to the development process, so its designers face the challenge of making all the functions harmonious and interactive. As one unbiased designer put it: "Facebook's user interface is like Frankenstein (Frankenstein, Frankenstein)." Its network effect is so powerful that it doesn't matter what it does now. “

Youssef Sarhan, an Irish web designer, Sofu Shahan the claim that he created the blog yo zuck! Implement this (Zack!) Add this feature to ask Facebook to address the user interface challenge. The blog collects ideas on how Facebook can improve the user interface and user experience, such as displaying online status throughout the site, nested video reviews, video chats and activity maps (events map). Shortly after the site attracted people's attention, Facebook was contacted.

TechCrunch, a well-known technology blogger, also interviewed Sandy, asking him to talk about how Facebook can do better. The following is a summary of the interviews:

1 What is your job?

I currently work as a designer in a company that is responsible for the user interface, user experience and brand design.

What is the inspiration behind the 2 yozuck! website?

Originally from the experience of using Facebook. If Facebook has a design problem, it's usually obvious that it's easy to find traces of it. But the site has a bigger goal, not just to see where Facebook used to be, but also to find out that Facebook didn't do those things, the unknown domain (uncharted territory).

3 What are your plans for the future?

Now I haven't made any plans.

4 did Facebook try to buy your site?

A few people have contacted me and they think the site I'm doing is pretty cool and inspiring.

5 about the Facebook user interface, what do you think is the worst problem at the moment?

Simply put, no one has 100, 200 or 300 friends. If you are lucky enough, you will have 10 or 20 friends. This is a sociological issue and will not change for a period of time. Although I think it's important to keep in touch with people you know, it's not that important every time you log in, what these people are doing. I know that Facebook has done some work to simplify the content source that most interacts with you, but I still believe that this aspect still needs further effort. I am now trying to find a solution to this problem.

6 What is your solution?

Simply put, you should be able to choose to focus on the content of a predefined circle of friends for the time being. In other words, you can immediately find out what the person you care about most is doing when you log in. You don't always want to spend 1.5 hours looking at 200 acquaintances to find out what your closest friends are.

7 which function do you want to see on Yozuck?

An idea I hadn't thought of. But if I choose among the ideas I already have, I'd love to see the nested video comment feature. (http://yozuck.tumblr.com/post/4482821418/nested-video-comments). Users currently have two choices, one is to leave the HTML link in the nested comments, and the second is to post a video to your friend's graffiti wall as a reply. Neither of these approaches is good because they make the user's content sharing experience fragmented.

8 What do you think of the defective Facebook user interface (especially on the phone)?

There are many versions of Facebook mobile apps, depending on your device and platform. But you're right, the Facebook event has a bad interface, and it's not limited to mobile apps. This is a feature that is closely related to time and date, but it is quite surprising that people can't see the activity on the calendar. But in general, Facebook is making significant progress in mobile apps, and I've noticed a lot of minor updates over the last few months.

9 Where do you think Facebook's design is better?

Facebook's brand and interface interactions are so strongly consistent that people don't have to be too much of a brain to know how to use it. It is also a very pleasing product, clear and clear. This is already a huge design success.

10 What do you think is the biggest unknown area of Facebook?

There are two ways to look at this problem:

1 can add/remove what day-to-day functions to improve this product?

2 Which direction should this product be heading in the whole?

From the premise of Facebook and what it means, the unknown is everything Facebook hasn't done. Updated from the minimal user interface to 5.6 billion users who have not yet registered.

I mentioned the Facebook browser, and when you consider that Google has a Chrome browser, it doesn't seem surprising that Facebook can come up with one. This, of course, creates a series of privacy issues, but that's something to worry about later.

Facebook's intention is to "capture" personality and personal life, which, for millions of people, means watching movies, listening to music and reading books ...

11 What are the most bizarre of the ideas you already have?

"Amazon on Facebook" sounds crazy, right? It might be a good result. Amazon's interface is not so interesting, maybe you trust friends ' advice better than strangers ' advice. may also offer a promotion discount? Is Facebook group mode available for online book clubs? So what about offering a discount with itunes? Combine Netflix to make you watch movies with friends or lovers in another country? Those who have long-distance relationships will love this idea.

These ideas are certainly a bit bizarre, but it's the idea that triggers something better. Of course I want to emphasize that not every function you come up with can be realized. It needs to be smart, useful and clear, otherwise the product will become bloated.

12 What do you think Facebook should focus on first?

When Facebook launches a new feature, they usually want to be accepted by the user 100%, but the problem is that the function satisfies the minimum common denominator of the user's needs. Yes, third party developers can create applications, but the most successful applications are games, not useful tools.

I think Facebook should focus on the needs of different "people" rather than on the general needs of all "individuals", fundamentally, this is uncharted territory.

13 How are your site traffic in the last few days?

To be honest, I have no way of knowing the exact number, I think it's between 20,000 and 50,000.
