Zettaset sues Intel for stealing its Hadoop large data software

Zettaset accuses Intel's Hadoop release of being a replica of its flagship product

Zettaset recently accused Intel of copying its large data software, Zettaset in the indictment that Intel's Hadoop management software is very similar to Zettaset's flagship orchestrator, which not only seriously infringes Zettaset's intellectual property, but "Cuckoo", the naked scramble for its customers.

In an indictment filed by the Santa Clara County Court in California in Thursday, Zettaset said:

In fact, Intel's so-called large data software is Zettaset products.

It is reported that Zettaset's charges against Intel include breach of contract, misappropriation of commercial secrets and deliberate misrepresentation.

Zettaset and Intel were close partners, and the two sides reached a strategic cooperation agreement in 2012. At first zettaset the code for its flagship large data product orchestrator to Intel to achieve better performance on Intel systems. (Editor's note: All of the Hadoop distributions are running on Intel's hardware architecture) then the two sides reached a business cooperation agreement to run orchestrator on Intel's hardware, and the market was rumored to be launching a large data-all-in-one machine running Orchestraotor, and Intel capital Start thinking about investing in Zettaset.

Only six months after working with Zettaset, February 27, 2013, Intel announced its first Apache Hadoop release and the Hadoop management tool.

Zettaset accused Intel of copying the Orchestrator Management console and technology for implementing the security and high availability of the Hadoop cluster. Some of these technologies currently exist only in Intel and Zettaset products. Zettaset also accused Intel of copying the optimal configuration of the orchestrator run benchmark (for solid-state hard drives, but Intel's Hadoop release was designed for mechanical hard drives, but Intel did announce that its Hadoop release was optimized for SSDs when it was marketed).

Zettaset claims that Intel's Hadoop release is the only version of the orchestrator Hadoop commercial release that is currently incompatible because the two products are too similar. "Running Zettaset on Intel systems is like inserting a key in a lock with a key," Zettaset wrote in the indictment.

In addition to plagiarism code and core product features, Zettaset also accuses Intel of "cuckoo", plundering its partners and customers and positioning itself as the perfect replacement for Zettaset.

While Zettaset's accusations seem to be bad for Intel in the current situation, lawsuits in the tech industry are often protracted, and it is too early to conclude.

It is noteworthy that Intel launched a Hadoop release in China in July 2012 (shortly after obtaining the Zettaset source code), and Intel began developing the Hadoop system as early as 2009, according to ZDNet's report.

An Intel spokeswoman declined to comment on Zettaset's indictment, but one thing is certain that it was the first time Intel had been sued for entering a new market rather than abusing the microprocessor market.
