The Sina Science and technology news Beijing time February 17 morning, two people familiar with the matter said that Zynga is planning to launch a series of new services to promote other developers of the game to reduce the reliance on Facebook. According to people familiar with the matter, Zynga will launch a release project starting in March. Through this project, other game developers can promote the game in Zynga games and a portal, and Zynga will be able to get a share of the revenue from these games. Zynga last December made an IPO, raising $1 billion trillion. The company is looking for new sources of revenue. By providing services to other developers, the company will be able to reduce its reliance on Facebook. Facebook now contributes more than 90% of its revenue to Zynga and 30% of the virtual goods sold in Zynga games. A Zynga spokeswoman said the company would not comment on rumours or speculation. It is less risky to help other developers promote games than to develop games on their own. Zynga's profitability has been affected by the huge sums invested in developing new games. According to people familiar with the matter, Zynga is still discussing the new distribution platform with its partners, while in-house development is still ongoing. The final launch of the platform is likely to be delayed. By becoming a distributor, Zynga will be more like traditional video game companies, such as EA. These companies help independent gaming studios to publish and promote games and derive revenue from them. Zynga currently has more than 246 million users, according to AppData data. Of the top 7 games on Facebook, 6 are from Zynga. Data show that last month's launch of "Hidden Chronicles" has become Zynga's 3rd-ranked game, the number of players per month reached 30.7 million. The top two were "CityVille" and "Texas Poker". At an event held last October at San Francisco headquarters, Zynga launched new services Project Z. The service is also designed to reduce Zynga's reliance on Facebook. "Project Z is part of Zynga's strategic Zynga direct to establish a direct relationship with users," said Pincus Mark Ping Cass, Zynga's CEO. Earlier this week, Zynga's share price had its biggest single-day decline since it came on the market. According to Zynga's quarterly earnings report, the cost of product development has seriously affected profits. (Zhang Fan)
