America Water taps SAP for software

SAP Americas Inc., the Newtown Square-based subsidiary of German business software giant SAP AG, is going to give Voorhees, N.J.-based American Water Works Co. Inc. a software makeover.

SAP said Wednesday that American Water, which is the largest publicly traded water company based in the United States, will implement its software companywide.

The first phase of the implementation will involve SAP ERP, the latest version of the enterprise resource planning software that has long been SAP’s bread and butter, and some SAP for Utilities applications, including the SAP Customer Relationship Management and Billing for Utilities package.

Later phases will cover the SAP Enterprise Asset Management software and such other applications as billing and call-handling management.

SAP didn’t say how much it will receive from American Water for the implementation
