安裝前請務必用紙筆記下安裝序號。將光碟機設為第一啟動盤，放入Windows longhorn4074英文測試版安裝光碟片到光碟機，重新啟動電腦，當出現如下圖1畫面時快速按斷行符號鍵。

出現圖1畫面時，在3秒內要按斷行符號鍵，才能啟動光碟片安裝，否則會啟動失敗。安裝啟動後首先出現如下圖2所示。

從上圖可知,安裝過程分三步∶第一步收集資料、第二步安裝過程、第三步啟動系統。第一步完成後會重新啟動，以後就自動安裝了，不再需要你參與，與安裝XP對比要簡單很多。直接按確認鍵後，出現如下圖5所示

這裡是安裝選項∶安裝路徑、電腦名稱、使用者名稱、安裝語言、鍵盤種類、時區。因為這是測試版本，所示這裡的選項不能更改。按斷行符號鍵後出現如下圖8所示。

上圖為選擇安裝系統所用的分區，並同時可對分區進行∶使用(按R鍵)、刪除(按D鍵)、格式化(按F鍵)、建立(按N鍵)、擴充(按E鍵)、載入(按L鍵)等操作。上圖列出了各分區的大小和可用空間。我要用C盤來安裝系統，但C盤可用空間只有2,490M (剛安裝完成時已用空間為2,540M），是不夠空間的，所以要格式化C盤。現在預設選中了C盤（橙色標示部分）按“F”鍵準備格式化C盤。按“F”鍵後出現如下圖9所示。

出現格式化分區警告視窗，按“向右”方向鍵選擇“Continue”按鈕後斷行符號，開始格式化選定的C盤，格式化完成後，顯示如下圖10所示。

從上圖可見，C盤可用空間由原來的2,490M變為現在的3.977M 。要用C盤來安裝系統，現在預設選中了C盤（橙色標示部分），按斷行符號鍵後開始安裝，出現如下圖11所示。

開始複製檔案，以後的安裝過程不再需要你的參與，會自動完成。上圖的複製檔案過程需要時間較長，當橙色進度條完成後，系統將重新啟動。重新啟動出現如下圖12所示的啟動畫面。
