微軟在本周進行的2007微軟Windows硬體工程會議（WinHEC）上正式宣布了新一代Windows Server系統的正式名稱——Windows Server 2008，同時公布了Windows Server 2008的封裝封面。 Windows Serer 2008代號“Longhorn”，目前微軟還未公布新一代Windows Server的具體上市日期。
