Security Company F-Secure's Q1 2014 report (PDF) shows that the vast majority of new mobile malicious programs are targeted at Google's open-source operating system Android. This is largely because of the dominant position in the Android Market and the inconsistent updates caused by version fragmentation and the boom in the third-party application market. Android is not prone to malware flooding. Security researchers have discovered only 277 new malware families, of which 275 are for Android and 1 is for iOS, another kind is for Nokia Symbian. These malware mainly subscribe to value-added numbers, download files or applications, track GPS locations and listen to users, disguise them as anti-virus software, but they are actually reactive.
