A dual-band access point is essentially a combination of two access points and can provide two non-interference frequencies at the same time, while an updated MIMO device increases the speed in the 2.4 GHz or higher range. The 2.4 GHz range is often crowded and the manufacturer has avoided dual-band MIMO devices due to cost problems. Dual-band devices do not have the highest performance or range, but allow you to operate in a relatively less crowded 5.3 GHz range, and if the two devices are in different bands, allow them to operate at full speed at the same time.

Home wireless LAN examples are not common. This topology costs more, but provides more flexibility. Routers and wireless devices may not provide all the features that advanced users want. In this configuration, the cost of such access points may exceed the price of a considerable router and AP all-in-one machine, owing to a small number of such products in the market, because most people prefer to combine functions.
