Differences between MPO and MTP Optical Fiber Connection standards
With the rapid development of data centers, cloud computing, cloud storage and other applications gradually penetrate into various industries, and the bandwidth requirements for network communication also rapidly increase, high-speed, high-capacity, and high-bandwidth often require greater space and higher costs. This is a long-term contradiction. the MTP/MPO optical fiber cabling standard has become the best solution for high-density and high-bandwidth. MTP and MPO fiber connection systems are available on the market today. They are very similar and compatible to some extent. What are the differences between them.
MPO (Multi-fiber Pull Off) is the first Multi-core fiber Connector designed by NTT Communication Corporation in Japan. It is the name of a Multi-core connector produced by several companies. MTP is a brand registered by USConec, which specifically refers to its unique MPO connector type.
What is MPO connector?
MPO is short for "multi-fiber pull off. The connector has more than one fiber core and is mechanically inserted into place.
Currently, various manufacturers on the market have a variety of MPO designs. The performance and cost of different connection products vary greatly. The features of some products make the performance more outstanding. Some MPO connectors can be matched with many products of different brands, but some cannot, this interoperability depends on how close these connectors are designed to standard products. For a complete definition of MPO connector, see implementing IEC-61754-7 and EIA/TIA-604-5 (aka FOCIS 5 ).
What is MT plug-in?
MT refers to mechanical connection and transmission, with multiple cores (usually 12 cores ). The performance of the connector is determined by the accuracy of the optical fiber and whether the accuracy of the connector can be continuously stabilized after connection. In the end, this aligning accuracy is determined by the fiber's eccentric heart rate and spacing, as well as the matching accuracy of the guiding needle and the fiber. If the deviation of the Guide and molding process can be reduced during the production process, the performance of any MPO connector can be improved.
What is MTP? Optical Fiber Connector?
The MTP connector is a high-performance MPO connector with multiple innovative designs. Compared with the MPO connector, the MTP optical fiber connector is enhanced in both optical and mechanical properties. The MTP connector is fully compliant with the professional standards for all MPO connectors including EIA/TIA-604-5 FOCIS 5 and IEC-61754-7.
MPO connector is an industry standard MTP connector that can be paired with each other, which means it is feasible to replace MPO connector with MTP connector for better performance. The performance of most MPO connectors that use the old design is quite limited and cannot provide the same high performance as that of the MTP optical fiber connector.
Why is the MTP connector described as a high-performance MPO connector?
The performance and availability of the specially designed MTP connector are higher than those of MPO connector. This design feature of MTP is unique and patented. The main features are as follows:
1. The outer frame package of the MTP Optical Fiber Connector can be easily removed.
The MT plug-in design ensures zero performance loss during rework and re-grinding during production. The yin positive can be flexibly changed after assembly or even at the site. Interference detection can be performed after the plug-in core is assembled.
2. MTP Optical Fiber Connector floating plug-in can improve the transmission performance during mechanical docking. It allows two connectors to maintain good physical contact with each other's plug-in cores under the influence of external force.
3. the MTP Optical Fiber Connector's oval guide PIN is made of stainless steel. The Oval guide PIN can improve the accuracy of the docking and reduce the wear on the guide hole, enables MTP fiber optic connectors to maintain high-performance transmission more persistently.
4. the MTP Optical Fiber Connector has a metal needle clip used to fix the push ring. Specific features:
Prevent needle loss;
Pressure generated by concentrated spring;
Prevent the optical fiber from being damaged when the Spring touches the friction fiber during mechanical scaling;
5. MTP Optical Fiber Connector Spring design maximizes the band gap between 12-core and multi-core band applications to prevent fiber damage.
6. MTP optical fiber connectors have at least four standard Matching Parts, which can be adapted to different types of optical fiber cables and are more practical, including:
Circular optical cable with a loose structure;
Band-shaped optical cable that exists in the elliptical shape;
Bare band fiber;
The ultra-short tail sleeve connector is suitable for applications in a small space and reduces the volume by 45%.
Can the MT plug-in Cores be cleaned in conventional mode?
The best way to clean dust and oil that affect the optical performance on the MT plug-in is to use an advanced dry cloth cleaning component, such as NTT-AT OPTIPOP, Which is easy as it only involves a single channel. When the above cleaning components are used, the pollutants will be completely cleared. On the contrary, although the low-quality fabric or cotton swab can remove the pollutants on the surface of the optical fiber, the dirt will still have the edge of the plug-in core, the plug-in core face is easily worn out, resulting in serious data loss.
OPTIPOP series cleaning components are designed for Yin/yang optical fiber connectors and can also be used in single-core ceramic plug-in. OPTIPOP box cleaners and card cleaners use complementary cotton cleaner that can be used for a long time. Compared with traditional cleaner methods, OPTIPOP cleaner is cheaper.
