Disk Capacity Calculation

CHS: cylinder, Head, sector/track, as follows:

Cylinder cylinder number indicates the number of tracks on each disk. The number starts from 0 and ranges from 1023 to 1024.

The number of heads indicates the total number of heads on the disk, that is, the number of faces on the disk. The number starts from 0 and ranges from 255 to 256, indicating that there are heads.

The number of sector/track sectors table shows the number of sectors on each track. The number starts from 1 and ranges from 63 to 63, indicating 63 sectors. Each sector is 512 bytes, it is the smallest storage unit of the disk.

1024 cylinders x 63 sectors x 256 heads x 512 bytes = 8455716864 bytes (8.4 GB)

Logical Block: The minimum storage unit specified when the format of the filesystem is partition. The block size is a multiple of the 2's power of the sector. The head can read a block at a time. The planning of block units should take into account the performance of Data Reading and the utilization of hard disk space.
