Dreamweaver Dreamweaver MX Ultradev Exploration (1) establishing a data source

In the last lesson, we simply introduced the MX in the background database of the new features, today we have to really start to learn his function. Dynamic page is the most important combination of background database, automatic updating of Web pages, so our tutorial from the beginning and the end of the database is inseparable, leaving the database is not a dynamic page. So today we're going to talk about how to set up a database connection in MX.

The establishment of a database connection is a Web page to the data bridge, any form of additions, deletions, modifications, searches are built on the basis of the connection, you can imagine the importance of the connection. So establishing the right connection is the first part of our study.

Create a folder where you think you can, name it dwmx (of course you have the right to use that name), create an Access database in it, preferably Northwind.mdb the sample database for Office Access, because we'll use him in the future. Enter MX, as in DW or UD, to set up a site, which is the directory we just created, and the default language is ASP VBScript. Of course you can also set it in the Files panel on the right.

Create a new file and do the setting in the pop-up window (Figure 1-1). Because MX joins a lot of new background development languages, including the latest technology, you can choose the type of page when you create a new file, and if it is a dynamic page, choose the appropriate background development language. Here we certainly choose Dynamic page and ASP VBScript, I think this is the choice of most friends! Press the creat button.

Ready to work, start connecting to the database, expand the right side of the application panel, select the Databases tab, press the "+" button, select Data Source Name (DSN) (Figure 1-2)

Figure 1-2

Continue with the settings in the data Source Name (DSN) dialog box that pops up. If you have already set up a connection in the Control Panel ODBC, you can find the connection you established in the data Source name (DSN) drop-down list, enter a name in connection name, press the Test button, and if successful, the database will be connected. But what if we don't set up a connection in ODBC?

1, very simple, click Define ... button, you can enter the ODBC data Source manager. (Figure 1-3,)

Figure 1-3
2, select the System DSN tag, click the Add button (Figure 1-4)

Figure 1-4

3, select the data driver we want to use, this option (Figure 1-5).

Figure 1-5
4, click the Completion button, select the path of the database, should be dwmx/northwind.mdb. Give the data source a name. It's called "TESTMX." (Figure 1-6).

Figure 1-6

5. Click OK to see our data source "TESTMX" (Figure 1-7).

Figure 1-7

6, click OK to return to the data Source Name (DSN) dialog box in MX. Enter the name "Northwind" Test in Connection name, if successful, OK.

Now we look at the application panel databases tag, is not our new data source Ah! (Figure 1-8)

Well, our bridge has been built, and the next step is to go through the database to fetch the data.
