Wireless Networks are mostly used by families or companies. It facilitates Internet access and becomes an insecure channel of the network. Different levels of security options and configuration parameters may cause insecure installation. Although this installation works, it will leave vulnerabilities that can be exploited by criminals. Here we will introduce six simple methods to enhance the protection of wireless networks.
1. Use WPA2 encryption-the old security options, such as WEP, which can be instantly cracked without special devices or techniques. You only need to use browser plug-ins or mobile apps. WPA2 is the latest security algorithm. It applies to the entire wireless system and can be selected from the configuration screen.
2. Use a password of more than 10 characters-even new encryption schemes, such as WPA2, can be overcome by those processes that automatically acquire the password. You do not need to use long and hard-to-remember passwords. You can use large expressions, such as makemywirelessnetworksecure, to replace the shorter password. Or use a more complex password, such as "w1f1p4ss ". These passwords are more secure.
3. do not use standard SSID-many wireless routers come with the default wireless network name, that is, the SSID we know, such as "netgear" or "linksys ", most users do not want to change these names. WPA2 encryption uses this SSID as part of the password. Changing the password does not mean that hackers are allowed to use the password to query the list. This will undoubtedly accelerate the password cracking process, and even allow them to test the password at a rate of several millions per second. Using a custom SSID increases the difficulty for criminals to damage the wireless network.
4. Add numbers, special characters, and uppercase/lowercase letters to the password. A complex password increases the number of characters, which increases the difficulty of password cracking. For example, if your password contains four bytes, but you only use a number, the possible password is 10 to the fourth power, that is, 10000. If you only use lower-case letters, the password may reach the fourth power of 36. In this way, attackers are forced to test a large number of passwords to increase their decryption time.
5. Adjust the coverage of wireless signals-the modem's Access Point has multiple antennas and transmission power, so you can adjust the coverage of signals. Some products allow us to adjust the transmission power through menu options. This limits the range of wireless signals that others can obtain, so as to avoid damaging your network.
