GO1.7 's development cycle is nearing its next milestone, and Go's submitter Dave Cheney reports on the efforts of the team members on the language tool chain in the upcoming release of the child.
Based on current development status, Go1.7 will easily become the best go release, Cheney said. The efforts to enhance the tool chain focus on the following two areas:
- Compile and link the time;
- Code generation.
When it comes to compile time, the go compiler has been slow since C went to the impact of go. This issue has been discussed many times and the most recent work accomplished is to reduce compiler memory usage to improve link time. This improvement reduces the total compile time of 20-30% by approximately Go1.5.3 compared to the previous one, as shown in:
Code generation, as described above, is another major concern of Go1.7. The new backend is replaced by SSAS, as is the case with LLVM and other compilers, to enable many optimizations for code generation. These optimizations include better elimination of useless code, register allocation, stack frame allocation, and so on. As Cheney says, Go1.7 's new SSA backend will increase the code speed by 20% in this initial phase. Extra, compared to Go1.6 it generates smaller binaries, and in many cases it is similar to the Go1.4 generation.
