Web page ranking (PR) is an exclusive secret weapon for Google to determine website ranking based on external links and link sources. Although Google adds more and more new standards to website rankings, this method has gradually become weaker, but Seo and website administrators still pay great attention to obtaining a high PR.
Do you need a high PR value to make your website successful? Search ranking is a factor, but what is the actual popularity and traffic of your website?
To answer this question, we decided to investigate the PR value of the top 100 websites in the United States. The following is the result of the survey.
PR data of fortune websites
Here are some of our statistical results.
The average PR value of fortune 7.5 websites is.
Among the top 100 websites, only two websites with a PR value of 10 were named Google.com (1st) and cnn.com (18th ).
The prvalue of the first 10 websites is 8 or higher.
The top 11th websites with a PR value of 7 are the Craigslist websites ).
The prvalue of more than half of the websites is 8 or 9.
Among them, 1/3 of websites have 6 or 7 PR.
About 10% of websites have 4 or 5 pr (mostly adult websites ).
The following chart shows the PR distribution of these 100 websites. As you can see, the maximum number of PR groups is 8, which is equivalent to the sum of 6 and 7.
You may have noticed that there are only 95 websites in total. This is because five of Alexa's top 100 websites are not real websites, and they look more like AD servers and file servers, so we have removed them.
Note that the ranking shown here is for the homepage of each website. Web page ranking is for individual web pages. Therefore, when we say "website PR", it does not mean the whole website. We need to understand this. This idea has also influenced our discussion of PR, so you will often hear something like "I have a website with a PR value of 6 ".

The other side
It has already been indicated that many top-level websites have 6 or 7 PR, so it is clear that some websites will still be very popular even if they do not have a high PR ranking, but what about websites with high PR rankings? Is their success related to their PR value?
Google's webpage ranking is calculated in logarithm mode, which means that websites with PR 6 are much more than those with pr 7, similar websites with a PR of 5 are much more than those with a PR of 6. In the same way, a very small number of website PR values can reach 9, and only a small number of websites can reach 10.
There are indeed a very small number of websites with up to 10 PR, and you can count them clearly with your fingers. According to Google'sAlgorithmThe PR of these websites or webpages has reached its peak, and pr10 is their highest ranking. How can this be converted to traffic and popularity?
The following are the top 10 PR websites and their world rankings in Alexa (I have mentioned that Google .com and cnn.com are two very popular websites with 10 PR ):
Www.w3.org: 533
Www.usa.gov: 10,096
Www. Europeana. EU: 104,652
Www. sciencedirect.com: 989
Therefore, the website's high popularity does not mean that the PR value is high. A website with the same high PR value does not mean that it will succeed. This makes sense, because the final PR is based on search results rather than traffic.
Summary
PR is still very important. This is still one of the factors that Google considers when ranking your website, however, this study shows that even many well-known websites are very popular, but the PR value is only medium 6 or 7 (somewhat or even lower ).
On the contrary, a high PR value does not guarantee that the website will succeed in traffic.
That is to say, unless your website wants to enter the top 10 in the world, PR 6 or 7 will be happy. There is no need to pursue a higher PR value, because even if your website does not have such a high PR value, it can still be very popular. So let's face this fact. If your website is indeed very successful, your PR will continue to improve accordingly and don't want to rely on other ways to increase your PR value.
