How to install Ubuntu vmware-tools in VM

Installation environment:

• Ubuntu version: 10.04.4
• VM version: 7.1.4 build-385536

Installation steps:

1. Choose VMware> Virtual Machine> install VMware Tools. In the displayed dialog box, select "Install". At this time, the installation CD image of VMware Tools for Linux is automatically loaded under Ubuntu. You will see a CD icon named VMware Tools on the desktop of the virtual machine, which is automatically opened, including the vmwaretools-8.4.6-385536.tar.gz file.

2. Click Applications> attachments> terminal in the upper left corner of the Ubuntu Desktop to pop up a program like Windows dos. This is a "terminal" and you can enter a command on it.

3. run $ CP/Media/VMware Tools/vmwaretools-8.4.6-385536.tar.gz/home/on the terminal to copy vmwaretools-8.4.6-385536.tar.gz to the/home directory.

4. Unzip the file, that is, run $ tar zxf/home/vmwaretools-8.4.6-385536.tar.gz. The extracted files are all in the vmware-tools-distrib directory.

5. Go to the vmware-tools-distrib directory and run $ CD vmware-tools-distrib.

6. Run the installation file, $ sudo./vmware-install.pl. After you press enter, you will be prompted to enter your password, indicating that you will execute an action to install the software with more advanced permissions, again press enter to start installation.

After some confirmation, press enter (this is equivalent to the many dialogs that are filled in when installing software in windows. Here we use the default settings ), after "enjoy -- the VMware team" is displayed, the vmwaretools installation is complete.
