Introduction to wireless network bridging concepts

We should have heard about the Wireless Bridge. It connects two separate networks and serves as a bridge. This introduces the following concepts: wireless network bridging technology and wireless network bridging technology.

Wireless Bridges are the product of the combination of Wireless RF technology and traditional wired bridge technology. Wireless Bridges can seamlessly connect local networks that are dozens of kilometers away, create a unified enterprise or metro network system. In the simplest network architecture, the Ethernet port of the bridge is connected to a hub or switch in the LAN, the signal transmitting port is connected to the antenna through a cable. In this way, the network system is expanded. AboveCable has the following structures for wireless bridges: point-to-point, point-to-point, and hybrid.

◆ Point-to-point type

This type is often used between fixed locations connected to the network, and is a common method of wireless connection. The network built using this connection method has the advantages of long transmission distance and high transmission rate, it is less affected by the external environment.

◆ Point-to-point Model

This type is usually used when there is a central point and Multiple Remote points. Its biggest advantage is its low network construction cost and simple maintenance. Secondly, the center uses an omnidirectional antenna, which makes debugging easier. The disadvantage of this network is that the omnidirectional antenna is used, and the omnidirectional spread of the beam greatly degrades the power and the network transmission rate is low. The network reliability cannot be guaranteed for remote points over a long distance.

◆ Hybrid type

This type of network is suitable for long-distance points, close-distance points, and blocked points of buildings or mountains. When constructing this network, the above two types of network connections are used in combination. Point-to-point mode is used for long-distance points. Point-to-point mode is used for multiple points at close distance, and a relay is used for blocked points.

After learning about the wireless network bridging technology, let's take a look at the pattern classification of wireless network bridging.

◆ Mode 1: Access Point Wireless Network Bridge AP)

This mode provides wireless workstation access to the wired LAN and from the wired LAN to the wireless workstation. Moreover, a wireless workstation within the range covered by a wireless network bridge can communicate with each other through it. The following uses a wireless network adapter or AP Client to receive its signal. The Setting principle is as follows: the same ESSID, the same network segment but different IP addresses, and the same channel ).

◆ Mode 2: Access Point Client Wireless Network Bridge Client AP Client)

This mode is equivalent to the Access Point Mode client, which is in the same position as the wireless network adapter. The difference is that the AP (Wireless Network Bridge) connects to the wired network. In this way, any workstation in the remote LAN can successfully communicate with any workstation in the central LAN, just like in the same physical connection LAN. You can use this mode to connect a central network to multiple remote networks. As an AP (Wireless Network Bridge) client, the AP Wireless Network Bridge must be set to the same ESSID and the same wireless channel as the master AP. In "Preferred bss id (BSSID)", enter the MAC address of the master AP, MAC address, and MAC address on the back of the AP.

◆ Mode 3: Wbridge Point-to-Point Wireless Bridge Point-to-Point, also known as Bridge Mode)

For point-to-point connection of wireless bridges, wireless network bridging still plays a central controller role in the wireless workstation in its BSS Basic Service set, however, it only communicates with another wireless bridge. The "PreferredBSS ID" is used to set the MAC address of the Peer AP to identify the specified AP, AP name, different IP addresses, the same ESSID, and the same channel, the same Wbridge Point to Point application mode, and the MAC settings on the peer end. This is the default operation mode of the Wireless Network Bridge.

Mode 4: Wbridge Point to MultiPoint Wireless Bridge Point to multiple points)

Point-to-Point master mode, which works with the Wbridge Point-to-Point AP to build a Point-to-Point network. The center is an omnidirectional antenna or an antenna of a certain angle, and other points are oriented antennas. Setting principle: the center is in Wbridge Point to Multipoint mode, with the same channel, the same ESSID, and different AP names ). Set BSSID of other points to MAC of the central point
